How do I know ESET Smart Security/ESET NOD32 Antivirus is updating correctly?

  • Verify that the latest virus signature updates have been received

The current Version of virus signature database is: 12354 released on October 4, 2015


By default, ESET products check every hour for a new update and are updated at least once a day with new virus definitions and occasional program component updates.

The following procedure will allow you to check for the latest virus signature database updates in any ESET Windows home product. Older product versions may not resemble the screenshots below.

  1. Open ESET Smart Security or ESET NOD32 Antivirus. How do I open my ESET product?
  2. Click Update. If you see Virus signature database is up to date, no update is necessary. If Virus signature database is up to date is not displayed, click Update now.
  3. If you have problems updating your product, press CTRL + U on your keyboard and the License details window will appear on your screen. Verify that your ESET-issued Username and Password are entered correctly and click OK. If you forgot or lost your username and password, visit our lost license page.


Usernames and Passwords

Remember to enter your Username and Password exactly as they are written:

  • The username and password are case sensitive
  • The hyphen in the username is necessary
  • The password is ten characters long and all lowercase
  • If you are copying and pasting, make sure you don't select an extra blank space
  • We do not use the letter L in passwords (use the number one (1) instead)
  • A big '0' is the number zero (0); a little 'o' is the lowercase letter o
